I never thought I would like overnight oats, I mean the prospect of eating cold soaked oats is hardly appealing but how very wrong I was! I’ve been having this easy brekky at least 4 times a week now, on my busiest days and I’m so happy I gave it a try.
For the basic overnight oats:
½ cup of rolled/ old fashioned oats
½ cup milk of choice – I use almond milk
1 tablespoon of chia seeds
1.5 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract @steenbergsltd
For my top 3 add on flavours:
Cinnamon and Peanut Butter:
1 tablespoon of peanut butter
1 tablespoon of maple syrup
2 tablespoons of peanuts crushed
3-4 tablespoons of yoghurt – I use coconut yoghurt
1 teaspoon of organic cinnamon powder @steenbergsltd
Strawberry Swirl:
¼ cup of sliced strawberries
1 tablespoon of freeze dried strawberry powder mixed in with 3-4 tablespoons of yoghurt – I use coconut yoghurt
2 teaspoons maple syrup
A small handful of goji berries
Raw cacao butter pieces
Chocolate Fruit n Nut:
A small handful of dried fruit
1 tablespoon of raw cacao powder
1 tablespoon of maple syrup
2 tablespoons of raw chocolate chips (optional)
• Start by combining rolled or old fashioned oats with your favourite milk (I use almond milk) in an 8 oz. Mason jar or resalable container.
• Overnight oats are super versatile especially at this stage so feel free to add your chosen sweetener and/or spices you like now along with the other flavourings.
• Seal or cover with a lid and chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight, for best results, do overnight!
• There are so many ways you can customise the flavours. Have fun and mix up the flavours so you can have a different one every day of the week even!
